Martínez in the groove

After Gabriel Barbosa, you could forgive Inter fans for reserving opinion on Lautaro Martínez until he played. But he already looks the real deal.

The 21-year-old scored his third goal in two games against Borussia Dortmund and what a well taken goal it was.

Peeling off his marker, he controlled a Stefan de Vrij pass expertly on his chest before slotting past the onrushing Roman Bürki.

It was Romelu Lukaku who arrived for the big bucks but Lautaro is quietly proving his own worth – missed penalties aside!

Dortmund lack spark

If you take two influential goalscorers (and personalities) from any team, you’d expect them to struggle. Dortmund, however, looked lost.

Paco Alcácer and Marco Reus were both absent at San Siro and as much as Julian Brandt tried up front, nothing came off.

Jadon Sancho was impressive in a free role after being afforded license to roam, but Thorgan Hazard and Aachraf Hakimi rarely ran beyond the German.

The circumstances were tough but Lucien Favre still got his tactics wrong.

All to play for

Group F is arguably the most entertaining group in the Champions League this season and there’s still plenty to play for.

Barcelona edged past Slavia Prague but their Czech hosts were no pushovers – and will fancy themselves against both of these sides.

Inter host Barça in December, while Dortmund travel to the Camp Nou in late November. We’re banking on a shock or two.
