De Bruyne on a different level

Arsenal didn’t offer much in the way of competition but my oh my, Kevin de Bruyne is a special footballer.

Most Premier League footballers will punish you when afforded space, but giving him the keys to Emirates Stadium is like giving Dracula the keys to the blood-bank.

He made his first goal look easy, his second was a beautiful left-footed finish and only Bernd Leno denied him a spectacular third.

Did we mention his assist, eight ball recoveries and five completed dribbles? All City had to do was follow his tempo.

Boardroom negligence continues

It’s been 16 days since Arsenal parted ways with Unai Emery and there has been no news – absolutely nothing – regarding a potential successor.

Freddie Ljungberg has spoken of his frustration about not being able to employ any coaching staff, on the basis he had been ‘told to wait’ by senior officials.

Waiting for what? They’re either pursuing somebody or they aren’t. Shortlisting 359 managers doesn’t mean anything.

This team is bereft of confidence, lacking direction and desperate for clarity. The longer this half-baked approach continues, the worse it will get.

Martinelli the only bright spot

Positives are hard to come by right now, but Gabriel Martinelli stood out again with another impressive performance.

It isn’t spoken about enough how smoothly this teenager – who was playing in the Brazilian fourth division last season – has taken to English football.

His touch was occasionally loose and Kyle Walker bested him at times, but every time he drove towards goal he looked dangerous.

The Brazilian showed exemplary work rate, took more than a few kicks and still persevered for the full 90 minutes. They’ve found a gem.
