Hazard losing influence

Adapting to a new club, new language and new culture requires time. That shouldn’t mask what has been an underwhelming start for Eden Hazard.

Despite playing out wide, the Belgian was central to everything positive for Chelsea – creating and scoring in equal measure.

But his influence is minimal at Real Madrid. Those telepathic sequences aren’t right, he hugs the touchline too much and his condition looks rusty.

Hazard actually started the game well but became more anonymous as time went on. That needs to change.

Something is missing

Los Blancos are in a bad place. They aren’t what they once were, but this side is still stacked with talent.

You wouldn’t think that by watching them. Against Real Betis everything looked difficult and forced, from the basics to the more elaborate.

Is that down to coaching or players not maximising their abilities? Either way today was a missed opportunity after Barcelona and Atlético dropped points.

You can’t just rely on Karim Benzema every week.

Betis find their building blocks

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Betis but they can take positives from this result.

Marc Bartra was efficient in midfield, Nabil Fékir sparkled at times and Joel Robles was outstanding in goal.

That’s a strong spine to build around with Sevilla and Valencia travelling to the Benito Villamarín Stadium.

Rubi is slowly showing signs of improvement.
