VAR saves Spurs against brilliant Blades

Tottenham were extremely fortunate to come away with a point after drawing 1-1 with Sheffield United in North London.

John Lundstram was close to making it three goals in two games early on, only to see his left footed strike smash off the post with Paolo Gazzaniga beaten.

Lys Mousset missed a golden second-half chance after putting Davinson Sánchez on his backside, before Heung-min Son capitalised on a Blades defensive horror-show to put Spurs ahead.

David McGoldrick thought he’d equalised minutes later, but after VAR intervened, his goal was ruled out for a fractional (and we mean fractional) offside.

The visitors eventually earned their justice after George Baldock’s unorthodox cross squeezed into the corner – ensuring the points were shared.

Deadly duo strike again for the Clarets

Burnley celebrated two fresh contract extensions with a comfortable 3-0 victory over West Ham at Turf Moor.

Ashley Barnes opened the scoring with a smart close range finish, before Chris Wood doubled their lead after brilliant work from 19-year-old Dwight McNeil.

A calamitous own goal from Hammers ‘keeper Roberto added insult to injury as pressure continues to mount on manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The hosts now move up to ninth, with West Ham loitering dangerously above the relegation zone.

Richarlison to the rescue

Everton left St Mary’s Stadium with a much needed win after beating Southampton 2-1 on Saturday.

Local lad Tom Davies put the Toffees ahead after just four minutes, burying a smart header after creeping in unmarked at the back post.

With neither side creating much in the first half, Danny Ings equalised for the Saints in the 50th minute, finishing well after Sofiane Boufal terrorised the opposition defence.

But it was Everton who had the last laugh after Richarlison escaped Jan Bednarek, finishing a Djibril Sidibé cross expertly on his weaker side.

Magpies edge Cherries in entertaining affair

Newcastle secured a deserved three points after beating Bournemouth 2-1 at St James’ Park.

The visitors were ahead after 15 minutes, after a beautifully worked set-piece routine found Harry Wilson unmarked in the box to slot home.

Newcastle, however, controlled most of the first-half and equalised through DeAndre Yedlin who emphatically headed Allan Saint-Maximin’s deflected strike past Aaron Ramsdale.

Ciaran Clark put Steve Bruce’s side ahead – scrambling home a Federico Fernández header from close range – allowing them to push on for a third.

But after misses from Joelinton and Miguel Almirón, they did things the hard way and held onto a massive win.
