Southend United have appointed Sol Campbell as the club’s new manager on a deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.

And Campbell will be joined at Roots Hall by former Portsmouth defender Hermann Hreiðarsson (Assistant Coach), former Manchester United striker Andy Cole (Forward & Attack Coach) and former Arsenal fitness coach Anthony Colbert (Head of Technical Football Conditioning).

It will be the former Arsenal and England defender’s second foray into management following a successful spell at Macclesfield Town.

Macclesfield were seven points adrift at the bottom of the League Two table when the 45-year-old took over in November 2018 but they ended up surviving relegation after a 1-1 draw with Cambridge United on the final day of the season.

Campbell has been searching for his next opportunity since leaving the Silkmen in August and will take charge of his first game against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
