Sergio Ramos has confirmed he will not be leaving Real Madrid this summer.

Ramos had been heavily linked with a lucrative move to an unnamed club in the Chinese Super League, with Madrid president Florentino Pérez confirming earlier this week that the 33-year-old had requested to leave the club.

But the Blancos captain appears to have had a change of heart, and he revealed on Thursday that he has no intention of leaving this summer and hopes to retire at the Bernabeu.

“I want to put rest to rumours that don’t do any well to myself, the club or anybody else involved,” Ramos told reporters at a surprise press conference called on Thursday afternoon.

“I want to be real clear to the fans. We’ve never had problems (with the club), I’m a Madridista and I’d love to retire here.

“I have a relationship with Florentino akin to that of father and son. He makes the decisions, he has always been good at looking after his players.

“No. I don’t want to leaave Real Madrid. U’ve aways said my dream is to retire here.

“I’ve always told the president I’d love to stay as long as I have a contract, and I’d even been willing to play for free.

“We’re like father and son, but even father and children fight.”

The Spain international is under contract until June 2021. He has also been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks.
