Liverpool have named Joel Matip and Fabinho at centre-back in the absence of Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch defender is suspended for Tuesday’s visit of German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League after picking up three bookings during the group stage.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who has recovered from illness, start upfront for the Reds.

Bayern, too, are somewhat depleted and are without veterans Arjen Robben, Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller for the trip to Merseyside.

Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry start on the wings with Robert Lewandowski leading the Bavarian attack.
