FIFA have shut down LaLiga’s plans to host matches in North America.
“I’m strongly opposed to this,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino at FIFA’s General Assembly on Friday.
“I deny any permit to play the Girona-Barça game in Miami.
“Official games of a league must be played inside the country”
LaLiga president Javier Tebas had been determined to stage the game in North America after agreeing a 15-year deal with Relevent to host at least one LaLiga game per season in North America.
Those plans were criticised by players, clubs, fans and even the Spanish FA.
Without FIFA’s permission, the game will not be able to take place outside of Spain.
