Kevin-Prince Boateng is no longer Barcelona’s weirdest signing of the 21st century.
The LaLiga champions have completed the emergency capture of Leganés striker Martin Braithwaite after triggering the 28-year-old’s €20m release clause.
He joins the club on a four-year deal, which also includes an eye watering €300m release clause.
Barça were given special dispensation to sign a forward after Ousmane Dembélé was ruled out for six months following surgery on a hamstring injury last week.
But they were only able to sign a player from another LaLiga club and they had to meet their chosen player’s release clause.
The player they have chosen is Denmark international Braithwaite, who has scored six times in 24 league appearances for struggling Leganés this season.
The former Middlesbrough man can play as a central striker or wide on the left, and could make his unexpected Blaugrana debut against Eibar at Camp Nou on Saturday.
