Bayern Munich are running out of candidates for the head coach’s job, leaving Arsène Wenger a run at the role.
Speaking on Tuesday evening, Wenger admitted he misses coaching and would be interested in the vacancy at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern reportedly looked to open talks with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel after sacking Niko Kovac on Sunday evening.
However, both men have insisted they want to remain at their current clubs for the remainder of the season.
It looks more and more likely that Bayern will appoint an interim boss until the summer, when they will choose a more long-term successor.
RB Leipzig head of sport and development Ralf Rangnick has also pulled out of the running for the job.
According to SportBILD, the German was a strong candidate. Now the publication claim he has rejected an approach.
“No, Ralf Rangnick is not available,” Rangnick’s agent, Marc Kosicke, told BILD on Wednesday.
“We do not believe that what Ralf Rangnick brings is currently being sought at Bayern.
“That’s why it makes no sense to hold concrete talks.”
SportBILD claim that this now leaves Wenger in pole position for the role.
For the time being, former Germany assistant Hansi Flick will be in control of the first team. Flick’s first game as head coach takes place against Olympiakos on Wednesday.
