With the Liga MX transfer window coming to a close, América made a last-minute move to sign León midfielder Leonel López.
López was half-way into a year-long loan at Toluca, where he made just five Liga MX appearances (one start) last season.
“We talked about Leo today. We had a meeting today and then the coaching staff joined,” explained Toluca president Francisco Suinaga.
“Leo is not in (Toluca manager) Ricardo La Volpe’s plans and Leo is going to leave. He will play at Club América.”
The midfielder will be direct competition for fellow new signing Ruben Gonzalez.
Meanwhile, it’s highly expected that Edson Álvarez will depart for Ajax by the end of the day.
