It’s September and that can only mean one thing – the new instalment of the FIFA franchise is just around the corner.
And before FIFA 20 hits shelves later this month, here are the 10 brand new features we’re most excited about …
Fans of Ultimate Team will be getting a new batch of iconic players from football’s past to add to their team this year.
Players like Didier Drogba, Andrea Pirlo, Michael Essien, Ian Wright and Pep Guardiola.
And the one we’re most excited about, Zizou himself …
If you’re a Career Mode fan who has grown sick and tired of having to choose from the same pre-set manager avatars over the last few years, you’re going to love what FIFA 20 has in store.
It will now be possible to customise your manager’s body type, skin tone, clothing, and hairstyles, and for the first time in FIFA, it will also be possible to create female managers.
It was often quite difficult to beat defenders in one-on-one situations in FIFA 19 but the new strafe dribbling feature in the new game will enable you to lure defenders into a trap before skinning them with speed or skill moves.
Check it out …
Another new gameplay feature which catches the eye concerns AI defending.
If you found it too easy to score against the computer in FIFA 19, or too frustrating when your own defence would often go AWOL, EA promise that FIFA 20 offers better defensive support from AI-controlled players via an overhauled positioning and tackling system.
FIFA’s Career Mode has been long overdue an update and this year it’s getting a pretty big one in the form of storylines.
As a manager in FIFA 20, you will now be required to attend pre and post-match press conferences as well as talk to your players, and every decision you make will have an impact on your team’s morale and performances.
If you’ve ever been in that situation on FIFA where you’re one-on-one with the goalkeeper and for some reason your striker hits a tame effort straight into their grateful arms, you’ll know how rage-inducing it can be.
But EA say FIFA 20 will offer more clinical finishing in one-on-one situations, as well as better control when it comes to long shots and volleys.
It’s a welcome addition for sure.
The dusty old set-piece system has been completely revamped in FIFA 20 and though those who’ve played the game say it’s going to take a lot of getting used to, it looks like the juice will be worth the squeeze in the end.
We’re particularly excited about these Cristiano Ronaldo-esque knuckleball free-kicks you’ll now be able to do.
But what’s even more exciting is they’ve finally done some work on the, frankly, terrible penalty system.
The new penalties look to be far more intuitive, and the animations are more realistic than ever.
FIFA fans of a certain vintage will remember when you could play an indoor game of five-a-side back in FIFA 97, while the younger generation will have been raised on a diet of FIFA Street more recently.
But gamers young and old will be able to take things back to basics in FIFA 20 with the brand new Volta mode.
It’s basically FIFA Street built into the regular FIFA game, meaning you’re essentially getting two games for the price of one.
And it looks like a lot of fun …
Perhaps the biggest game-changing feature in FIFA 20 concerns the overhauled ball physics system.
EA claim the ball will move more naturally than ever before in the new game with more authentic spins and bounces, curling shots, dipping free-kicks, knuckleballs and first-time rising strikes.
It looks great and we can’t wait to give it a try for ourselves.
