With a new LaLiga season comes plenty of new LaLiga kits.

It’s fair to assume Real Madrid and Barcelona will be at the top of the table in May but how have they fared in our kit rundown in August?

Scroll down and check out this season’s best (and worst) strips ahead of another campaign.

20. Real Valladolid

Hummel have produced some stunning shirts this season but this effort is by far one of their poorer returns. That violet block to accommodate the sponsor? Yuck.

19. Deportivo Alaves

Another victim of a blocked sponsor sees Alaves join Valladolid in the bottom two. The blue stripes trail into insignificance to the bottom while the edge of the sleeves is out of kilter with the rest of the shirt.

18. Barcelona

Barcelona may always be at the top of the table but they’re battling relegation when it comes to this season’s kits. Just too many stripes. It reminds us of those tatty carrier bags you get at an off-licence; no, really, it does. It’s just not Barcelona.

17. Espanyol

It’s just all a bit plain. The thick blue stripe and round-neck doesn’t do anything for this look. Now if we were talking third-strips …

16. Real Sociedad

LaLiga’s blue and white stripes have failed to impress us this summer and this is another bland effort, this time from Macron – though the collar does works nicely.

15. SD Eibar

Barcelona should take a leaf out of Eibar’s book when it comes to red and navy stripes (this actually resembles a nineties Barca shirt and we like it). Less is always more … though not enough for a finish higher than fifteenth in our rundown.

14. Real Madrid

The collar looks a bit peculiar on this Madrid shirt while the stunted Adidas stripes on the sleeves are disappointing. But hey, Real have finished above Barca so they’ll surely be pleased with this result.

13. SD Huesca

The chunky sash. Good. That collar. Even better.

12. Rayo Vallecano

Vallecano have incorporated a motif of their badge into the design of their shirt and more clubs should follow suit. Another sash, as is tradition for Vallecano, for a bonus point. Peru looked good at the World Cup and Rayo shall in LaLiga.

11. Sevilla

Smart and slick if a little plain. This white home shirt is a solid effort but Sevilla narrowly miss out on the top 10 through Nike’s lack of imagination.

10. Atletico Madrid

One of the more striking shirts on show this season, the red, white and blue look great but what’s with the sound frequency behind the sponsor?

9. Villarreal

It’s yellow as expected but this is a really nice effort from Villarreal while the black collar resembles the club’s badge. Nice work from Joma.

8. C.D Leganes

This shouldn’t work really for us. Blue and white stripes and a block sponsor have put us off other kits in this countdown but there’s just something about this Leganes effort. Perhaps Alexander Szymanowski is just a very good model. Whatever it is, we’re sold.

7. Levante

The unassuming pinned stripes within the main stripes makes this Levante kit stand out. A very stylish effort.

6. Getafe

Getafe were sponsored by Burger King between 2009 and 2012. Now, in 2018, they’ve revisited the relish theme with a ketchup and mustard collar. Anyone else feeling a little peckish?

5. Athletic Bilbao

The symmetry. The collar. The red, white and black. It’s fifth-place for Bilbao. A really smart effort from New Balance.

4. Valencia

Valencia celebrate their centenary and have launched this special adidas kit. The gold works so well on what should prove to be an iconic strip at the Mestalla.

3. Girona

We have a feeling this effort from Girona may be a little like Marmite but for us, we love it. The diagonal stripe is something a little different and this is another top strip from Umbro who have smashed their 2018/19 ‘that’s a nice kit’ quota.

2. Celta Vigo

The one tone sky blue across the main body of the strip, adidas logo and adidas stripes makes for a stunning Celta jersey. What a gorgeous football top.

1. Real Betis

Oh my. Real Betis have rejoined forces with Kappa once more and it’s a match made in heaven.

Unique, classy, and even a little retro, Betis had been with this kit manufacturer from 1995 until 2009, and this jersey is just amazing. The collar is super cool and the green and white looks great.

We can’t wait to see how good Joaquín looks in this number to make us feel all nostalgic.
