Right-back Jorge Sánchez sent in an early cross and Peralta did well to beat Querétaro defender George Corral to the ball. Peralta’s header bounced past Tiago Volpi to open the scoring in the 36th minute.

The Gallos Blancos were outplayed in the first half but showed resolve after the intermission.

Camillo Sanvezzo hit a header of his own after Daniel Villalva crossed the ball in from the right flank with his left foot. In a similar fashion to the game’s earlier goal, Sanvezzo directed his effort back in the direction from which it came and out of goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín’s reach in the 75th minute.

Luis Reyes drove forward from his left-back position and slipped a pass through the Querétaro defence for Cecilio Domínguez in the 89th minute but the Paraguayan forward could not finish for the Águilas.

The result puts América on 10 points and keeps the team within three points of league-leaders Cruz Azul. On the other hand, Querétaro remain in the middle of the table on five points after match-day five of the 2018 Apertura.
