Hiram Mier’s 93rd-minute goal gave Querétaro a point at rock-bottom Veracruz, but the visitors will have left the Estadio Luis Fuente unhappy.

The point puts eighth-placed Querétaro on 23 points, one point ahead of Pachuca and Monarcas for the final Liguilla spot – with the rest of Liga MX still to play this weekend.

Veracruz, who had only earned two points since August, came in hot and led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Bryan Carrasco and Hibert Ruiz.

In the 20th minute, Carrasco went on a fantastic dashing run and provided a deft finish to give the home side the lead.

Less than 15 minutes later, Ruiz doubled Veracruz’s lead after some lazy defending allowed the midfielder to get a free header at the near post.

Querétaro were a far better team in the second half and only needed 10 minutes to cut the deficit in half.

Off a free-kick, Alexis Perez rose up and headed home a much-needed goal to give the visitors hope.

Unfortunately for Querétaro, Veracruz goalkeeper Sebastián Roca came up with one of his better performances of the season, as the visitors were constantly denied the equaliser.

However, just before full-time, Hiram Mier gave Querétaro a slim chance to move onto the Liguilla with a fine header to make it 2-2.

Querétaro will finish their regular season next week against Necaxa, while Veracruz will travel to Club América.
