1-0: Forsberg 67′

Sweden had a fantastic opportunity to open the scoring after just eight minutes but Marcus Berg could only screw his shot wide after being put clean through on goal.

Moments later, Albin Ekdal smashed a volley over the crossbar.

Berg again went close to breaking the deadlock after 29 minutes, when his close range effort forced a tremendous save from goalkeeper Yann Sommer at full stretch.

Switzerland’s best chance of the first half came in the 39th minute, when Steven Zuber pulled a great cross back to Blerim Džemaili, but the midfielder could only blaze is effort high and wide.

Ekdal then missed a gilt edged opportunity when a cross found him unmarked at the back post but again, his volley flew over the bar.

Sweden finally took the lead in the 67th minute when Forsberg created an opening for himself on the edge of the area and his shot took a heavy deflection off Manuel Akanji on its way into the net.

Switzerland came close to equalising when a 79th corner rebounded off a Swedish player and had to be cleared off the line by Forsberg.

Vladimir Petković’s side pushed for a leveller in the dying minutes, with Haris Seferović forcing a save out of Robin Olsen, but it never came.

And deep into stoppage time, Sweden broke down field and Martin Olsson was brought down by Swiss defender Michael Lang. After consultation with the VAR, a free-kick was awarded on the edge of the penalty area and Lang was sent off.

Sommer saved the resulting free-kick, and 1-0 was how it finished.
