Jonathan Woodgate’s first game in charge of Middlesbrough saw his side settle for a share of the spoils in a Championship classic.
The game marked the first of the Championship season and if those to come are as exciting, we’re in for quite a treat this year.
On seven minutes, Ashley Fletcher found the net for the visitors at Kenilworth Road to notch the first goal of the new season.
That was cancelled out by a Sonny Bradley stunner 10 minutes later when he blasted an incredible volley into the net from outside the penalty area.
Martin Crainie’s header then sent the Hatters into the lead, only for Britt Assombalonga to level before the interval.
A handball decision early in the second half prevented Luton from regaining the lead and the visitors punished that call when Lewis Wing fired home a 25-yarder in the closing stages.
They had the perfect chance to put the game beyond doubt with a late penalty, only for Assombalonga to blast his effort over.
He was made to pay big time for that miss when James Collins struck for the new boys with five minutes remaining to claim a point from another outrageous Championship affair.
