Chelsea squeezed past Reading by the odd goal in seven at the Madejski Stadium in a game that saw Mason Mount impress.
He scored twice after the break following goals from Ross Barkley and Kenedy in the first half to come out on top from an entertaining affair.
The game suffered a delay due to excessive congestion outside the ground and Chelseaâs early defending indicated that nobody had informed them about the delay.
After 14 minutes, Reading went in front when Josh Barrett found room inside the area to clip over Willy Caballero for the opener.
That kicked Chelsea into life and midway through the half they levelled when a fantastic Ross Barkley free-kick rippled the netting.
Buoyed by that strike, Frank Lampardâs men moved ahead shortly before the break when a Kenedy drive from distance beat JoĂŁo Virginia.
Michael Morrison equalised shortly after the break before Mount took it upon himself to turn the game back in the visitorsâ favour.
He firstly fired into the net on 57 minutes to put his side back in the box seat and then added an insurance goal with the simplest of close range finishes.
It was a good thing he did too as Sam Baldock did indeed pull one back for the Royals but the Blues saw things out to pick up the win from a pre-season thriller.
