What an incredible night to be a Flamengo supporter, as an 89th-minute goal from teenage starlet Lincoln gave them an all-important 1-0 victory over Clåssico dos MilhÔes rivals Botafogo on Thursday night.

After a Palmeiras victory over Vasco on Wednesday, Flamengo’s lead at the top looked to be going down to six points until Lincoln’s effort gave the away fans at the nearby Olympic Stadium a huge reason to be jubilant.

Flamengo had dominated from start-to-finish and a 55th-minute sending off of Luiz Fernando only gave the rubro-negro more fuel to the fire.

However, despite a 71% possession advantage and an 18-5 shot margin, Flamengo looked as if they were going to be forced to settle for a point.

Against all odds, with one of the last attacks of the match, Bruno Henrique served up a perfect near-post ball to Lincoln, who supplied a one-touch finish to keep Flamengo’s advantage above Palmeiras at eight points.

Flamengo will attempt to keep Palmeiras at bay when they host Bahia on Sunday.
