VARdy drama as Leicester sink Chelsea’s young guns

After losing another 12 players to injury in training this week, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was left with no choice but to field the club’s under-9s at the King Power Stadium.

But the youngsters more than held their own and almost went in front when Billy Gilmour – the shortest player on the pitch – hit the crossbar with a header in the 37th minute.

The Foxes’ poor first half performance had manager Brendan Rodgers hopping mad in his technical area …

But the home side were much better after the interval and with five minutes remaining, the deadlock was finally broken by Jamie Vardy.

However, replays showed the striker’s chin may have been in an offside position and the goal went to VAR.

Four hours later a decision was made.

It was … Jamie Vardy’s goal.

Things were looking bleak for FA Cup holders Manchester City when they found themselves 3-0 down at half-time thanks to an unexpected first half hat-trick from Newcastle’s Joelinton.

The Geordie faithful were singing the Brazilian flop’s name as the teams left the field at the interval but unfortunately for him, normal service resumed in the second half when he scored three own goals inside 15 minutes to get City back on level terms.

But with the score level at 3-3, the match was rudely interrupted in scenes which wouldn’t have looked out of place in a WWE arena.

All of a sudden a song blared out over the St James’ Park PA system …

… and none other than Kevin Keegan entered the stadium in the very same helicopter he once famously flew away in …

We have no idea what he was thinking but the chopper landed in the centre circle and the match was abandoned.

Not ideal for City’s already packed fixture schedule.
