Corinthians defeated Deportivo Lara 2-0 in Itaquera in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana second round, thanks to goals from Vagner Love and Gustagol.
The return match will take place on 30 May in Venezuela.
From the beginning, Corinthians pressed their opponents, creating good chances to open the scoring.
Junior Urso, Pedrinho, Vagner Love, and Danilo Avelar all had opportunities to score before the 15th minute.
However, the pressure diminished and only Júnior Urso had a chance before half-time but the two sides would go into the dressing room scoreless.
Corinthians had a 24-6 shot advantage and most of them came in the second stanza.
At the hour mark, Vagner Love finally opened the scoring with a perfect header from Fagner’s cross.
Timao continued attacking and, in the 72nd minute, Gustagol came off the bench and scored on a header on Danilo Avelar’s cross.
Eighth-placed Corinthians will face third-placed São Paulo on Sunday.
