After clinching an incredibly rare Copa Libertadores – Brasileirão double over the weekend, Flamengo supporters welcomed their team back to the Maracanã with an ovation that began hours before the opening whistle.

Despite a slow start, a Bruno Henrique hat-trick and a late Vitinho strike gave Flamengo a 4-1 victory over relegation-threatened Ceará to extend their Brasileirão win total to 26 and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 27 games.

To the surprise of many, Flamengo started many of the players that featured in Saturday’s Copa Libertadores final win.

Flamengo showed some obvious wear from their wild last few days and deservedly conceded the opener, as Thiago Galhardo poked his goal over the line just before the half-hour mark to put the visitors ahead.

After the opening strike, Flamengo went on the attack and never looked back, with Bruno Henrique being the beneficiary in the 65th, 74th, and 85th minute to put him on 21 goals for the Brasileirão campaign and to put Flamengo on a record total of 84 points.

Vitinho scored a late insurance marker in stoppage time to take his Brasileirão goal total to five.

Flamengo outshot Ceará 25-7 (7-1 on target) and owned an overwhelming 66% of the possession.

With the defeat, Ceará remain in 16th place on 37 points, one point below Flamengo rivals Fluminense, and could potentially be leap-frogged by Cruzeiro on Thursday (36 points).
