Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores-winning squad took the pitch at the Maracanã one last time on Thursday night and boy, did they give their supporters a show.
Despite some iffy moments in the first half-hour, Flamengo destroyed bottom-table Avaí 6-1 in front of a whopping 69,090 in attendance.
Arrascaeta, Diego, Gabigol, Lincoln, and Reinier (twice) all scored as Flamengo logged their 28th win of the competition.
With the victory, Flamengo extended their modern-day Brasileirão record point-total to 90 points. Cruzeiro once totaled 100 points back in 2003, but at the time, they played with 24 teams and had a 46-game schedule.
Flamengo will end its victorious participation in Brazil against Santos, away from home, on Sunday.
With only 19 points and last place, Avaí, on the same day, will receive Athletico-PR.
