It wasn’t the glamorous won they expected, but América defeated Morelia 1-0 at Estadio Azteca on Saturday night.

With one of the weaker opponents of the LigaMX season, América was unable to flex its muscles and were given the victory after a goal was awarded to the home side thanks to VAR.

Plagued with defensive errors, América’s first half was one to be forgotten about as the league leaders did not play as such and gave the visitors many opportunities to open the scoring.

With a deadlock heading to the final 20 minutes of the game, it was a goal by 22-year-old Colombian, Nicolas Benedetti that was the difference for Miguel Herrera’s men.

Despite being down, Morelia continued to press to the end of the game but were unable to find the equalizer despite playing a stronger game.

América will now face Tigres in the Leagues Cup semifinal on Tuesday, before returning to LigaMX action on Saturday versus Tigres.
