Although we are a little less than half-way through the 2019 Clausura, several Liga MX teams are battling for the top spot and surprisingly none are from the capital.

If the Liguilla were to start today, Rayados would face Xolos in a surprising first-round matchup.

Elsewhere, Tigres and Pachuca would do battle, while third-seeded Club León would take on Santos Laguna.

Finally, Chivas and Necaxa would square off in a very entertaining duel.

It’s very important to note that Club América (nine points) and Necaxa still have a game to make up, which would see the Eagles rise to fifth with a victory.

After a miserable start to the Clausura season, Pumas are now also on nine points after winning back-to-back matches despite beginning the season on a five-match winless run.

Last season’s finalists and Copa MX champions Cruz Azul have been very disappointing this campaign and are in 14th place on eight points.

The last time a Liguilla was played without teams from the capital was at the 2017 Clausura.

Will history repeat itself?
