Borussia Dortmund have been crowned as the club with the highest attendance in world football.

Between 2013 and 2018, the Bundesliga club averaged over 80,000 fans at their home matches, according to a study from the CIES Football Observatory.

Top five clubs

  • Borussia Dortmund: 80,230
  • Manchester United: 75,218
  • Barcelona: 74,876
  • Bayern Munich: 73,781
  • Real Madrid: 69,822

Clubs in Germany are roundly praised for their approach to ticket prices and it should be no surprised to see two of them right near the top of the list.

Schalke, Hamburg and Stuttgart also occupy places in the top 10, sitting sixth, eighth and ninth respectively.

Arsenal are seventh, while MLS club Atlanta United are tenth after averaging an attendance of over 50,000 during their two MLS seasons.

With German clubs so well-supported, the league is also the most watched in the world.

Over 40,000 fans have attended games from 2013-18 on average, far more than any other league.

  • Premier League: 36,675
  • LaLiga: 27,381
  • Liga MX: 25,582
  • Serie A: 22,967

Mexico’s Liga MX sits in fourth, above Serie A, while the Chinese Super League has actually pulled in more fans (22,594) per game than Ligue 1 (21,556).
