Preston North End are making history as they play Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The game is Preston’s 4987th English league match, a new record.
Notts County previously held the record for the most matches but are now playing non-league football.
A founding member of the Football League, playing in the first ever league season in 1888/89 and ending that campaign as champions without a single defeat.
The club have spent 47 seasons in the the top tier of English football, 44 in the second tier, 23 in the third tier and just five in the fourth tier.
