The story of this remarkable football season came on Sunday with the news that Cardiff Metropolitan University have qualified for the Europa League.

The Welsh lads booked their place in European football’s second tier competition over the weekend as they beat Bala Town on penalties.

The squad, made up predominantly of Masters and PhD students, will be heading into the first round of the competition in July, where they could face the likes of Malmo or Legia Warsaw.

Due to the unique way the Welsh Premier League works, Cardiff Met actually finished the season in seventh place, but wins earlier this month over Llanelli and Caernarfon saw them make the Play-off final, where they then edged past Bala to win the title and go to Europe.
