Weâve all seen Harry Kaneâs strike by now, right?
In case you havenât âŠ
But whatâs the best goal ever scored from downtown?
Ever heard of German midfielder Moritz Stoppelkamp?
If it rings a bell, itâs probably because he did this for Paderborn a few years back, scoring the longest-range goal in Bundesliga history.
83-yard Golazo! Moritz Stoppelkamp sets a new Bundesliga record as he scores this incredible goal. âÂ
Absolutely outstanding.
It has to be Cristiano Ronaldoâs PuskĂĄs Award winning strike against Porto in 2009 for me.
What the hell was he doing shooting from there?
Context is everything when it comes to great goals and there can be no greater long range effort than this from Gabriel Batistuta.
Heâs playing away, at the home of the European champions, gets the ball 40 yards from goal and turns Jaap Stam â at that point probably the best centre-back in world football â and then rifles it past Mark Bosnich.
Stupendous.
Despite the fact I thoroughly enjoyed Harry Kaneâs wonder strike, itâs not the best long range goal ever. That, for me, goes to Dejan Stankovic (22:48 in the above video).
With 25 seconds gone in the Champions League tie between Inter Milan and Schalke back in 2011, Manuel Neuer must have thought heâd made a brilliant headed clearance just outside his own box â only for to Stankovic produce one of the best volleys ever, with incredible technique, on the full, from the half way line.
It didnt even bounce once.
This is everything a long-range goal should be.
A strike didnât appear to be on for St Patâs forward Conan Byrne when the ball rolled his way out wide in his own half.
One beautiful swing of the right boot later, it was in. Bonus points for landing straight in the netting too.
