Wednesday’s game at the Veltins Arena produced another divisive VAR decision.

With Manchester City leading 1-0, Schalke were awarded a penalty when a goal-bound effort struck NicolĂĄs Otamendi on the arm.

After a long consultation with the VAR, referee Carlos del Cerro Grande pointed to the spot, and Nabil Bentaleb stepped up to dispatch the penalty for 1-1.

But was it a penalty? Or did Otamendi try to get his arm out of the way?

Twitter was far from convinced.

To make matters worse, the referee was unable to watch a replay of the incident himself because the pitchside monitors were not working.

And within minutes of their equaliser, Schalke were awarded another far more clear-cut spot-kick when Fernandinho dragged down Salif Sané in the box.

Bentaleb stepped up and scored to make it 2-1 to the hosts at the break.

It’s all happening.
