Sam ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce is out of work but, if this review is anything to go by, he’s one of the greatest managers in football.

Patrick van Aanholt admitted he was “amazed” playing under the former England boss.

The Netherlands international spent a season with Allardyce at Sunderland.

Aside from spending most of his week in Dubai, it sounds like he really was one of the greatest managers around.

“I’m not suited to Bolton or Blackburn, I would be more suited to Internazionale or Real Madrid,” Allardyce told reporters back in 2010.

“It wouldn’t be a problem to me to go and manage those clubs because I would win the Double or the league every time.”

Maybe he was right?
