Late on Wednesday, Didier Drogba announced his retirement from football at the age of 40.

The deadly Ivorian striker enjoyed a glittering career which saw him have two spells at Chelsea scoring 164 goals in 381 games and winning four Premier Leagues and the 2012 Champions League.

He also played for the likes of Marseille, Galatasaray, Shanghai Shenhua and Montreal Impact before winding up his career with Phoenix Rising – the club he co-owns.

Here are 10 of his most memorable moments …

10. The Drogba chop

It was while playing for Marseille against Newcastle in the Champions League that Drogba came to international attention with this piece of genius.

9. His first goal for Chelsea

Drogba joined the Blues from Marseille for £24m in the summer of 2004, and his first of many goals for the club came at Selhurst Park that August.

It may only have been a pre-season friendly but what an unbelievable goal this was against AC Milan.

7. Drogba makes an Impact

The Ivorian joined MLS side Montreal Impact in 2015 and on his first start for the club, he bagged a perfect hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Chicago Fire.

6. Gunning for the Gunners

Drogba played 15 times against Arsenal during his career, and scored 15 goals. They must have been absolutely sick of him.

5. Madrid madness

It was while playing for Galatasaray that Drogba scored this incredible goal in a 3-1 win over Real Madrid.

4. Drogba wins the FA Cup

He won it four times in all but his first one came when he settled a tight contest against Manchester United with an extra time winner in 2007.

3. That goal against Barcelona

In October 2006, Drogba scored a stunner against Barça in a Champions League game at Stamford Bridge.

But of course, he will perhaps be better remembered for his reaction to Chelsea being dumped out in the 2009 semi-final after some questionable refereeing from Norwegian official Tom Henning Øvrebø.

With Chelsea trailing Bayern Munich in the dying minutes of the 2012 Champions League final, they needed a hero. And boy, did they get one.
