It seems Cagliari had an udder nightmare ahead of their Serie A clash with Milan.

The entire squad was trapped inside the training ground by around 100 local farmers protesting milk prices on Saturday, according to Football Italia.

As part of wider protests, people who have beef with the current situation, poured jugs of milk on to roads and stopped traffic by parking their vehicles.

Police were called as protestors demanded to speak to players, club hierarchy and coach Rolando Maran who were hoping to fly to Milan a day before the game.

Director general Mario Passetti proved to be the cream of the crop, talking to the protestors and negotiating a truce which meant the squad could get to the airport.

The team was only allowed to leave after a number of players, including Nicolo Barella, were filmed kicking over milk pails as part of the fulminations. Dairy me.

With Cagliari 15th in the table and just four points above the drop zone, there is no time to cry over spilled milk if they hope to moo-ve up the standings.

The Rossoneri, meanwhile, could go fourth with a victory. Cowabunga.
