🇪🇸 LaLiga Team of the Season so far

Article image:🇪🇸 LaLiga Team of the Season so far

Barcelona, last season’s LaLiga winners, have started fairly well but trail behind Sevilla. Real Madrid are way down in fifth after their recent struggles.

So if the season ended now, in October, who would be in our LaLiga team of the season?

If that very question has been bugging you – and we know it has – you’ve come to the right place.

GK – Jan Oblak – Atlético Madrid

Who else? Oblak remains the best goalkeeper in LaLiga.

Atlético have conceded just four goals so far this season, the fewest in LaLiga, and kept a league-high five clean sheets. Oblak has certainly played his part in that.

RB – Óscar De Marcos – Athletic Club

The ever-reliable De Marcos has had an excellent start to the season despite Athletic Club’s rocky form. With no standout in the position

CB – Marc Bartra – Real Betis

Since returning to Spain in January, Bartra has been excellent. The former Barcelona man shored up the Betis defence last season and has continued in the same vein.

Not only is Bartra a good defender, but his play with the ball is crucial to Betis and he’s deservedly back in the Spain squad.

CB – Diego Godín – Atlético Madrid

We’ve already touched on Atlético’s superb defensive record so Godín’s inclusion should come as no surprise.

The defender is now 32 but is showing no signs of a decline just yet. A monster at the back.

LB – Jordi Alba – Barcelona

Once again, Alba’s form has been excellent. He roams up and down the left as a defender and a winger at the same time, while his link-up with Messi remains priceless.

He will be key to any success Barcelona have this season.

CM – Éver Banega – Sevilla

Article image:🇪🇸 LaLiga Team of the Season so far

Talk about a renaissance! Banega has been the star of the Sevilla side this year, leading them to the top of the table.

The Argentina international sets the tempo for the side and is one of the best creative players in the league. In this form, a joy to watch.

CM – Asier Illarramendi – Real Sociedad

Article image:🇪🇸 LaLiga Team of the Season so far

This is the Illarramendi that Real Madrid were convinced to sign a few years ago.

With the ball, he sets Real Sociedad’s tempo. Against it, he is a feverishly brilliant defender. Crucial in every way.

CM – Saúl – Atlético Madrid

Things haven’t quite clicked for Atlético yet but they do have a third player in our side. That man is Saúl.

There is, simply, nothing he can’t do. The centre-midfielder sets the tone when Atlético press, digs deep when they sit back, creates chances when they have the ball and is a threat himself. Always impressive.

FW – Lionel Messi – Barcelona

Does this pick need to be explained? Eight LaLiga appearances, six goals, four assists. Lionel Messi.

FW – André Silva – Sevilla

Article image:🇪🇸 LaLiga Team of the Season so far

Well, this one is a little surprising. At least it would have been two months ago.

Since joining Sevilla, André Silva has recaptured his Porto form. With seven goals he’s the second top scorer in the league and he downed Real Madrid with a brace too.

FW – Cristhian Stuani – Girona

And then the league’s top scorer. With eight goals in as many games, it’s Stuani.

Other than a 0-0 draw in August, he’s scored in every game Girona have taken points from.
