Late penalty drama sinks Leicester at Anfield

Liverpool needed a contentious last minute penalty against Leicester to extend their winning streak in the Premier League.

After a first half in which both sides had their moments, Liverpool pounced on a defensive slip at the back five minutes before the break to go in front.

A ball in behind from James Milner should have been cut out Jonny Evans but his mistake let Sadio Mané and the forward made no mistake.

That strike took him to 50 Premier League goals for the club and was deserved for the hosts, who had the better of the opening half.

Leicester were much improved after the interval and after almost finding a leveller through a Dennis Praet thunderbolt, did so thanks to another error.

Adrián was the guilty party this time as he failed to keep out a relatively tame close range effort but was soon bailed out by the match officials.

After Mané was awarded a penalty after going down in injury time in the box, Milner stepped up to score the most dramatic of winners.

Hendrick heroic again as Clarets fly high

Burnley moved into the top four as a Jeff Hendrick strike punished 10-man Everton at Turf Moor.

The first hour or so was a poor affair, with little attacking intent on show from either side in the opening 45 minutes.

Everton in particular were a frustrating watch, with Seamus Coleman adding to that when he picked up a second yellow card shortly after the resumption.

He was punished for that dismissal by his compatriot Hendrick, with the Irishman popping up on 72 minutes to volley in an Ashley Westwood corner.

The loss means the Toffees have now lost their last four on the bounce in the league.

Five-star Villa victorious at Norwich

Aston Villa hit five unanswered goals at Carrow Road as they mercilessly put a meek Norwich City to the sword.

The visitors went in front on 14 minutes after Anwar El-Ghazi wriggled free of his marker on the right and sent in a high cross that Wesley brought down and finished from much too easily.

El Ghazi hit the bar shortly afterwards before Wesley grabbed his second after an assist from Conor Hourihane.

The Brazilian should have had a first half hat-trick but was denied from the penalty spot by Michael McGovern, who made an even better save to keep out the rebound.

But Villa did get a third after the break when Jack Grealish tapped home for a simple finish before a Hourihane drive from the edge of the area made it four.

Douglas Luiz came off the bench to curl in a stunning strike, with Josip Drmić grabbing a Canaries consolation.

Blades extend unbeaten road run

Watford and Sheffield United couldn’t be separated at Vicarage Road as the visitors picked up another good result on the road.

Andre Gray missed a big early chance in this one when Roberto Pereyra found him in space but he failed to find the target.

Callum Robinson had a similar attempt at the start of the second half but although he found the target, Ben Foster was equal to the attempt.

That was about all there was of note to report from this one with both managers likely leaving happy with a point.
