Hernández moved to Elland Road ahead of the 2016/17 season on an initial loan move from Qatar side Al-Arabi.
His current deal was due to expire in the summer but the 34-year-old has now put pen to paper on a two-year extension.
The Spaniard becomes to the seventh Leeds first-team player to sign a new contract since the summer.
