Fortuna Düsseldorf have sacked Friedhelm Funkel with the club bottom of the Bundesliga.
The club have lost both of their games since returning from the winter break and have decided to act now to rescue their hopes of staying up.
The 66-year-old arrived at the club in March 2016 and led them to promotion two years later. Last season the team impressively finished 10th in the league.
In January 2019, Funkel signed a contract extension to 2021 after a bizarre turn of events. The club had previously refused to offer him a contract and he had announced his plans to retire.
According to kicker and DPR, Manchester City legend and former Wigan and Leeds boss Uwe Rösler is likely to take over.
Düsseldorf have picked up just five points from their last nine games and are three points from safety.
