Arsenal are set to lose Héctor Bellerín for “some weeks”, Unai Emery has confirmed.

The Gunners’ head coach provided an update on the right-back after Arsenal lost 3-2 to Southampton on Sunday.

Bellerín was substituted with an issue at half-time and is now expected to miss the busy festive period.

“We need every player,” Emery said after the game.

“Bellerín has a small injury – he is going to be some weeks off I think.”

Arsenal ended the game with two midfielders – Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Granit Xhaka – in defence at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi were banned for the game but should be able to return to action when Arsenal host Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

However, there is an injury concern for Sead Kolašinac, who picked up a thigh strain in training on Saturday.

“Sokratis is coming back and we will see how Mustafi and Kolasinac are,” Emery added.

“It is good news [Laurent] Koscielny can be with us for the next matches. It is not a good result but it was important for us [to have them back].”

Koscielny returned to action on Thursday after seven months out with a ruptured Achilles and made his first Premier League appearance of the season on Sunday.

The defeat saw Arsenal’s 22-game unbeaten run come to an end.

With Bellerín injured, either Stephan Lichtsteiner or Ainsley Maitland-Niles will take his place at right-back.
