On Thursday, Corinthians coasted to a 2-1 victory over Wanderers to win 4-1 on aggregate and advance to face Fluminense in the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals.

Vagner Love scored a second-half brace as Corinthians were relaxed enough to rest players like Danilo Avelar for this weekend’s derby against Palmeiras.

Despite a scoreless first half, Wanderers hardly threatened as Corinthians had several chances to open up the scoring and bag a crucial away goal.

Matheus Jesus was given the chance to showcase his talents for the first time and heavily impressed with several fantastic shots from outside the 18, smashing the crossbar and forcing Barrandeguy to make a top save.

After the half-time intermission, Corinthians got their vital away goal. Matheus Jesus played a phenomenal ball from half-field over the top to Ramiro, who got behind the Wanderers defence only to hit the post.

Vagner Love would follow up and tap the ball home into the empty net.

Though Wanderers would score an equaliser just three minutes later, Vagner Love would complete his brace, heading home Ramiro’s cross.
