1973: Sunderland 1-0 Leeds

Second-flight Sunderland came up against a fearless and famous Leeds United side managed by Don Revie. Somehow, they pulled off an unthinkable win.

Ian Porterfield scored the only goal on a sodden Wembley pitch.

The win earned Sunderland boss Bob Stokoe a statue outside the club’s stadium

1987: Tottenham 2-3 Coventry

Coventry City went into their first ever major final against Spurs, a team who had already won the FA Cup eight times. They wouldn’t make it nine.

It took just two minutes for Spurs to take the lead. Coventry hit back but Spurs were ahead again before half-time.

Coventry’s equaliser looked like it would force a replay but then, five minutes into added time, Tottenham’s Gary Mabbutt scored a dramatic own goal to rock English football and send Coventry delirious

The biggest shock of them all. Wimbledon’s Crazy Gang went to Wembley with next to no chance but spoiled Liverpool’s party.

Wimbledon had been in the Football League for just 11 years at the time and, taking on the biggest team in the country, were billed as no hopers.

Lawrie Sanchez scored the only goal and Dave Beasant saved a penalty to secure a 1-0 win and a place in FA Cup folklore.

2013: Man City 0-1 Wigan Athletic

The biggest shock of modern times saw Manchester City on the receiving end.

A cagey game went into added time goalless, then Ben Watson suddenly flicked home a corner. City had no time to respond and Wigan claimed the first major trophy in their history.

Days later, Wigan were relegated from the Premier League.
