Where were you when Gabriel Martinelli announced himself to the world?

The Brazilian’s sensational goal at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday was his 10th of the season. It’s hard to believe he’s still just 18.

Can he go on to follow in the footsteps of these Premier League legends who exploded onto the scene in their teens?

Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)

The ‘Class of 92’ certainly left their impression on the Premier League, but Ryan Giggs did it like no other.

Already a regular at 18, still in the team at 41, Giggs won 13 Premier League titles and has the most assists in the competition’s history.

Rio Ferdinand (West Ham)

A midfielder, then a defender? All-round class and it showed from the very beginning.

Ferdinand never looked out of place at the top level and became the world’s most expensive defender with switches to Leeds and then Manchester United.

Michael Owen (Liverpool)

Michael Owen started as he meant to go on in the Premier League, with a debut goal at 17.

By the time he left Liverpool, he’d played seven seasons for the Reds and netted 15 or more Premier League goals in each of them.

Nicolas Anelka (Arsenal)

Anelka arrived at 17 before it was all that common for foreign players to star in England. Especially as youngsters.

But boy, did he star. Lightning quick and complete composure in front of goal, he was still a teenager when he left Arsenal, 23 goals later, to join Real Madrid.

Wayne Rooney (Everton)

Who could ever forget Rooney’s first Premier League goal to stun Arsenal?

The first of 203 strikes for the Everton icon and Manchester United legend was maybe his best ever. There was no doubt he would go all the way to the top and stay there for a very long time.

Cesc FĂ bregas (Arsenal)

Maybe the greatest passer in Premier League history, FĂ bregas broke into the Invincible Arsenal side at just 17 and replaced Patrick Vieira completely a year later.

He went on to captain the Gunners and embody their style before moving to Barcelona and later returning to London to win two Premier League titles with Chelsea.
