Cristiano Ronaldo is fighting to be fit in time for Juventus’ upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash with Ajax.
Ronaldo picked up a thigh injury during Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Serbia last Monday and subsequently missed Juve’s 1-0 win over Empoli on Saturday evening.
Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri admitted in his pre-match press conference that the 34-year-old is a doubt for the first leg of the Ajax tie but a video posted to his official Instagram account before the Empoli game suggests he’s stepping up his rehabilitation.
“Working hard on my recovery,” wrote Ronaldo under a video of him swimming.
And speaking after picking up the injury, the Portuguese appeared confident of a swift return to the field.
“I’m not worried because I know my body perfectly,” he said.
“It happens, it’s football. Who’s out there risks it. I’m calm, because I know I’m going to be back well in one or two weeks with no problem.
”I want to be in national team in the next matches. I was absent for eight months because I needed some time for myself.
“It was a radical change for me I needed a little time to adapt to my new life in Turin.”
Fingers crossed.
