Games like this are quite simply why we love football, any allegiances aside.

A big contest in which two teams went at each other and served up some incredible entertainment, this was the game at its very best.

It was the most frenetic start ever to a Champions League game and the end wasn’t bad either!

The only shame was that one of these two talented teams had to lose out.

Every single minute of it was a joy to behold.

Harry who?

Spurs travelled to the home of the Premier League champions without their top scorer, talisman and captain.

That isn’t three separate players, by the way, that is just how important Harry Kane is to them.

But in his absence, Son Heung-min stepped up with a very well-taken brace to show that they aren’t over-reliant on Kane.

The vital third goal came from something of a forgotten man in attack too as Fernando Llorente reminded fans what he is capable of.

Given that strike’s importance, they’ll never forget.

The Liverpool boss made four changes from the side which triumphed 2-0 at home.

It may have seemed like something of a risk but, aware of the qualities of both teams, he deemed it worth making.

In the end, it was a wise move as it gave some key players a little rest ahead of an intense run-in on two fronts.

What was with the kit clash in Manchester?

City’s light blue set against the green-blue mish mash that the visitors wore made for some tough viewing at times.

Spurs’ darker blue away kit has never been a big problem before and the goals did make up for it.

But it was a minor annoyance which detracted from an otherwise perfect night of football.
