Clotet has worked in English football since 2013, when he joined Swansea as an assistant coach. He then held the same role at Leeds United before taking the top job at Oxford United at the start of the 2017/18 season.

The Spaniard was sacked in January 2018 and moved on to join Birmingham as an assistant in March 2018. He has been in charge of the first team since June in a caretaker capacity but his work has now earned him the job full-time.

“Pep has shown his coaching expertise, man-management and leadership skills, allied to exemplary professional conduct, that can help take the Club forward,” the club’s board said in a statement.

“We have a clear vision of what our footballing philosophy needs to be and Pep and his staff have begun to implement that in a short space of time.”

Birmingham sit 15th in the Championship and haven’t won any of their last five games.
