According to the Manchester Evening News, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to keep the winger-turned-full-back for his old school leadership and influence in the dressing room.

Young played much of last season at left-back having spent all of his career as a forward and has usurped Antonio Valencia at right-back during this campaign.

The England international joined the Red Devils in 2011 after four seasons with Aston Villa having started his career with Watford.

Young has made 227 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring 17 times.

He is the sixth United player to sign a new deal with the club this season joining Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay in committing to the club.

That leaves Spanish duo Ander Herrera and Juan Mata as the only players whose contracts run out this summer though the pair could still stay.

United are currently fourth in the table following a fine turnaround after Solskjaer came into replace José Mourinho.

Next up is PSG in the Champions League, before an FA Cup fifth round clash with Chelsea proceeds a massive Premier League clash with title challengers and fierce rivals Liverpool.
