América announce Agustín Marchesín has been sold to Porto | OneFootball

Another important piece of América’s title-winning side has left the club.

On Wednesday, América confirmed the recent rumours and announced that goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín has been sold to FC Porto.

“Club America has reached an agreement for the definitive sale of the Argentine goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin to one of the most important teams in Portugal and Europe: FC Porto,” a club statement read.

“Since his arrival at the club in December 2016, he played 130 official matches in the Azulcrema goal, where he proved himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in Liga MX.”

Marchesín becomes the latest big name to leave this summer, as Edson Alvarez was sold to Ajax while Oribe Peralta left for rivals Chivas.

The 31-year-old was named to Argentina’s Copa America squad this summer after winning the 2018 Liga MX Apertura title, 2019 Copa MX Clausura title, and 2019 Campeon de Campeones title.

With Marchesín now out of the picture, the latest rumours suggest that legendary Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa could return to the Estadio Azteca, where he reigned from 2004 to 2011.

River Plate’s Franco Armani, Boca Juniors’ Esteban Andrada, and Queretaro’s Tiago Volpi (on loan at São Paulo) have also been mentioned as possible replacements.

Midfielder Mateus Uribe could also be out the door very soon, with both Porto and Benfica vying for his signature.
