In a match with not much action or excitement, a brilliant 79th-minute header from former Corinthians midfielder Willian ArĂŁo was enough to give Flamengo a 1-0 win away at the Arena Corinthians on Wednesday night.
The two sides will meet again on 4 June to decide who will move on to the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals.
The first half saw Flamengo control most of the possession but they werenât able to make it count.
LĂ©o Duarteâs header nearly opened the scoring in the 12th minute but his effort went over Cassioâs crossbar.
The second half was a little more lively but it was generally all Flamengo but TimĂŁo came out of the gate with two quick chances.
Vagner Love had an early opportunity after Danilo Avelar played him in but goalkeeper Diego Alves was there to make the save.
Avelar then got up for a header minutes later but his effort sailed over the bar.
In the 79th minute, Willian ArĂŁo broke the deadlock by heading home Bruno Henriqueâs cross for the gameâs only goal.
Corinthians will travel to face Athletico Paranaense on Sunday in Brasileirão action.
