On Tuesday, photos of José Madueña in Chivas gear leaked, so we knew an official announcement was coming soon.

On Wednesday afternoon, Chivas indeed announced the former Cruz Azul defender as their second signing of the Ricardo Peláez era after they captured Mexico international winger Uriel Antuna last week.

“I see myself as a champion with Chivas,” Madueña said. “I look forward to working and contributing the best of me to this team… this institution.

“I know what Chivas represents, what it means to come here and I am proud to assume this huge responsibility.”

The 29-year-old Madueña will come in and compete for the starting right-back job with Jesús Sánchez, while Josecarlos Van Rankin is expected to be heading to Santos Laguna, along with Alan Cervantes, in a swap deal for José Juan ‘Gallito’ Vázquez.

Prior to arriving at Cruz Azul in January 2018, Madueña spent seven years on the Xolos books, going out on loan with Dorados, América, and Atlas before securing a permanent move with Los Rojinegros in summer 2016.
