In what may have been the most thrilling match of the Brasileirão season, Flamengo and Vasco played out to an incredible 4-4 draw in one of the more memorable Clássico dos Milhões to date.

Eight goals. Three lead changes. 48 fouls. 11 yellow cards. This match truly had everything.

Ribamar’s 93rd-minute equaliser gave Vasco a much-needed point to keep their slim Copa Libertadores qualification hopes intact.

Meanwhile, the draw extended Flamengo’s unbeaten run to 24 matches in all competitions and put them temporarily 11 points ahead of second-placed Palmeiras with five games to play, just 10 days before the Copa Libertadores final.

It all got started on a high note as a spectacular solo run by 17-year-old starlet Reinier was finished off by Éverton Ribeiro just 40 seconds in to give Flamengo the early advantage.

It took about a half-hour for the two sides to settle in, but the match would be all fireworks from there on out.

In the 34th minute, Vasco would equalise through Marrony as he finished off a spectacular counter-attacking move.

Just two minutes later, Vasco would take an unlikely lead from the spot through Yago Pikachu as Pablo Marí surrendered an unnecessary penalty just inside the box.

Right at the half-time whistle, Rafinha’s cross from Flamengo’s set-piece struck the toe of Danilo Barcelos and gave goalkeeper Fernando Miguel absolutely no chance.

Flamengo may have had all the momentum in the first half, but Vasco came out of the dressing room looking to spoil the party at the Maracanã.

Just six minutes into the second stanza, Rossi caught Flamengo’s defence napping and allowed Marcos Junior to score from close range to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.

But in typical Flamengo fashion, they put their foot on the gas and did their best to overwhelm their opponents with their blistering attack.

In the 65th minute, Bruno Henrique got behind the Vasco defence and chipped the sliding goalkeeper from close game to make it 3-3.

With the match winding down in the 80th minute, Flamengo completed their thrilling comeback with Bruno Henrique smashing the ball home into the top corner to send the Maracanã into a complete frenzy.

With the match on the line in the 89th minute, Flamengo goalkeeper Diego Alves came up with a great save on Ribamar to seemingly give Flamengo all three points and a famous win.

However, Ribamar would get his revenge in the 93rd minute as he got up over Filipe Luís to head home a hugely-important equaliser.

Flamengo will now travel to Grêmio on Sunday in what will be their final match ahead of the Copa Libertadores final.

Meanwhile, Vasco will prepare for a very important mid-table clash with Goiás.
