Chivas attacking midfielder Uriel Antuna acknowledged how difficult of a challenge it has been to wear the red and white shirt at such a young age.
Chivas spent a whopping $11m on the player as part of their total rebuilding effort in the last transfer window. However, Antuna has been far from the star that he was speculated to be.
“Whoever came (during the winter transfer window), the weight would fall on them,” he said in an interview with Fox Sports.
“I always liked difficult challenges, since Ricardo (Peláez) asked me about the option of going to Chivas.
“I came to think that they are going to make me carry all that weight despite being a young player of just 22 years.
“I still do not feel validated and I tried to grab the opportunity in the best way.
“Although things have not gone so well for me just yet, I try to always keep the line, to be relaxed, calm, and continue believing that good things are going to come.
“That is what all the people did, load the weight of a whole team on a 22-year-old boy. The truth is that it is difficult, not just for me but for anyone.
“If an already experienced and validated player sometimes has trouble, imagine someone like me, 22 years old.
“It is difficult, but I try to grab the opportunity in the best way, learn football, and also learn from both criticism and compliments.”
So far this season, the former Manchester City youth has contributed an assist in 825 minutes of playing time.
Last season with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Antuna racked up six goals and six assists in 34 matches.
